Manchester

Located in the central part of North West England, the large populous city of Manchester has shed its gloomy industrial cloak and has embraced the 21st century with vigor. Today, Manchester is a dynamic and innovative city attracting visitors from far and wide and is the most visited city in England by foreigners outside of London.

The city has an intriguing history that precedes its founding in the 13th century. Starting life as a small farming district, real growth only took place during the Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries when the city became an important center for trade and industry. Come visit Brighton

Beginning life as a sleepy little fishing village, the city of Brighton started to develop in the 18th century when seawater and sea-bathing was prescribed by fashionable doctors of the time. This led to the development of the Georgian Terraces and following the Royal visit of the Prince Regent in 1783 and the arrival of the railway, the city blossomed into a fashionable resort. Today, it remains a fashionable, vibrant, colorful and creative seaside resort, on the south coast of England and being only an hours’ drive from London, is a favorite day trip for city dwellers, particularly during the sunny summer months.

The city is also the home of two universities and is known as the “Gay Capital of Britain” adding to its Bohemian and youthful culture. Access is easy with cheap train tickets available from London or along the coast. The center of the city is rather congested and visitors are advised to leave their cars at a park and Ride and take a bus. Many parades and festivals also attract their fair share of visitors. These include the Children’s Parade Day at the start of the Brighton Festival, the annual London to Brighton Bike Ride, the Brighton and Hove Gay Pride Week as well as the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. Once in the city, an extensive bus and rail network will get visitors to wherever they want to be while bike riding is also becoming a very popular means of transportation.

For visitors interested in history, Brighton offers a number of attractions. The Brighton Pier has all the usual seaside appeal with a funfair, restaurants and an arcade hall. The Royal Pavilion built as a royal palace for the Prince Regent and notable for its Indo-Saracenic architecture and Oriental interior is today a vibrant and chic supper club. Brighton beach is packed with sunbathers and swimmers during the summer months while just to the east of the pebble beach is a designated nudist beach. The Sea Life Center with a walkthrough underwater tunnel is the oldest working aquarium in the world while the Theatre Royal, Pavilion Theatre and Dome Concert Hall all offer a glimpse into a bygone era.
